You might be inadvertently working for Russian hackers and by proxy the Russian government without even knowing it.  If you have a router or NAS (Network Attached Storage) in your home or business and have not changed the default credentials, your probably are.  Over 500,000 routers are infected with a type of persistent and incredibly dangerous malware according to the research group at Cisco.

VPNFilter as the malware is dubbed comes with a suite of harmful tools with at least 3 stages of infection.  The third can render your device unrecoverable.  To find out more details head over to this excellent article https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/05/hackers-infect-500000-consumer-routers-all-over-the-world-with-malware/

Whether you care about cyber security or are mistakenly under the belief that just because you are an individual or a small business you aren’t a target, the security of the internet and world connectivity are threatened by these types of malware.  Since this is most likely an attack taken by a state agent of the Russian government, this is an issue of National Security.  We all know that proxy wars happen and in a digital age, our daily internet becomes the new testing ground for advanced cyber warfare.
